Pickering Introduces Industry’s First Miniature SIP Reed Relay with 5kV Stand-off Capability
Blog Article
For over 50 years, Pickering Electronics has been at the forefront of miniaturization and high performance in the reed relay industry. The company has now introduced a 5kV stand-off and up to 1.5kV switching version to its Series 104 reed relay family. Previously, achieving a 5kV stand-off rating necessitated the use of larger, non-SIP relays. Remarkably, four of the new 104 5D relays can fit in the same PCB area as one of the larger styles while still providing adequate clearance between adjacent components.
Kevin Mallett, Technical Specialist at Pickering Electronics, stated, “This is the first miniature SIP reed relay with a standoff of up to 5kV and up to 1.5kV switching, making it particularly advantageous for compact designs, as the devices can be stacked at just 6.35mm. Despite their small size, these relays maintain reliable performance, ensuring effective and safe high-voltage switching and control operations.”
The Series 104 reed relays are ideal for applications such as mixed signal semiconductor testers, cable testing, monitoring photovoltaic efficiency, electric vehicles and charge point testing, mining gas analysis, medical electronics, in-circuit test equipment, and high-voltage instrumentation, among others. The 5kV devices are available in 1 Form A (SPST N.O) configurations, with coil options of 5, 12, or 24V, and optional internal diode protection.
For applications requiring extended operating temperature ranges, the 104HT models are designed to function between -40 °C and +125 °C, with custom versions available for temperatures up to +150 °C.
